SALISBURY, Md.- A new update has been released for Maryland on state jobs and unemployment in Maryland.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Statistics released last week that 6,500 jobs were added in December.

This made the unemployment rate decrease to 3.5%.

This growth that we are seeing can be seen in Salisbury.

47ABC is told by the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce there has been an increase in jobs in the hospitality industry and in healthcare.

“More importantly health care, we have a very strong health care presence here in the lower shore and we did see and impact, a positive impact, in new jobs related to the health care industry here in Salisbury, Wicomico County, and our neighboring jurisdictions,” Bill Chambers, CEO and President of Salisbury Chamber of Commerce, said.

Chambers said that although we saw added jobs in the healthcare and hospitality field,  there’s still a need to fill positions in skilled labor positions.

He said that in Salisbury they are taking a proactive approach to increase work force readiness for students at colleges, like Salisbury University to fill skilled labor positions.
