Delaware State Police are investigating a weekend fatal crash involving a pedestrian in Ellendale.

On October 7, 2023, at approximately 11:16 p.m., a 2005 Toyota Avalon was traveling southbound on Dupont Boulevard in the left southbound lane. A vehicle not involved in the crash was stopped at a red light in the westbound lane of Milton Ellendale Highway while cars on Dupont Boulevard had the right of way. One of the passengers exited the vehicle and started walking westbound through the intersection. The pedestrian entered the path of the Toyota, which caused the Toyota to collide with the pedestrian.

The pedestrian, 23-year-old Malachi Gibbs of Harrington,  was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the Toyota, a 32-year-old man from Milton, sustained minor injuries during the crash.

The roadway was closed for approximately 3 hours to investigate the crash and remove any obstructions from the roadway.

Argo by calling (302) 703-3264. Information may also be provided by sending a Private Facebook Message to the Delaware State Police or contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
