State Police Investigating Weekend Fatal Motorcycle Crash

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle collision that occurred Sunday afternoon in Roxana that left one man dead.

On September 10, 2023, at approximately 2:44 p.m., a black 2001 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 motorcycle was traveling westbound on Bayard Road just east of Zion Church Road. For unknown reasons, the operator failed to negotiate a moderate curve and exited the north edge of the roadway. The Kawasaki traveled a short distance through a wet grassy area before losing control and overturning onto its left side. The Kawasaki re-entered the roadway, which caused the operator to be partially ejected from the motorcycle.

The operator, 78-year-old Andrew Carmine Jr. from Ocean View, was taken by ambulance to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.  The roadway was closed for approximately three hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident. Troopers are asking anyone who witnessed this collision to please contact Master Corporal K.
