The Delaware State Police have seen a recent spike in fatal crashes across the entire state where motorists were not wearing seatbelts.

A seatbelt is your best defense when involved in a motor vehicle crash and can simply save your life.  So far this year, there have been 57 motor vehicle crashes resulting in 61 deaths, and 25 of those motorists were not wearing a seatbelt.

To combat this issue, the Delaware State Police in collaboration with the Office of Highway Safety will launch its annual “Click It or Ticket” campaign, from May 15, 2023, through June 6, 2023. The goal is to remind motorists that seatbelts save lives.

Troopers and officers from municipal police agencies across the state will be participating in this campaign, aimed at issuing tickets to motorists who choose not to buckle up. A properly worn seatbelt is placing the shoulder belt across the middle of your chest away from your neck and placing the lap belt across your hips. You should never put the shoulder belt behind your back or under your arm.

Remember to buckle up every trip, every time. The best gift you can give your family is you, so please be safe!
