DSP Homicide Unit Investigating Shooting in Laurel

The Delaware State Police is investigating a homicide that occurred Friday afternoon in Laurel.

On April 14, 2023, at approximately 2:40 p.m., the Laurel Police Department responded to a shooting near the 100 block of Sunset Drive in Wexford Village Apartments. When officers arrived, they located the victim, identified as 18-year-old Corey Mumford of Laurel, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds behind one of the apartment buildings.

The officers began CPR and attempted life-saving measures until EMS arrived on scene. The victim was then transported to an area hospital where they were pronounced deceased.  Due to the nature of the investigation, the Laurel Police Department requested that the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit assume the investigation. No suspect information is available at this time.
