Laurel, DE – Delaware State Police arrested Jerome M. Slavinskas III, 43, of Laurel, on criminal and traffic charges following a welfare check early Tuesday morning at a truck stop.
On November 9, 2021, at approximately 1:02 a.m., troopers were dispatched to the Oasis Truck Stop located at 30744 Sussex Highway to check on the welfare of an unconscious male in the driver seat of a red Chevrolet S-10 pickup. Upon arrival to the Oasis, troopers located the vehicle at the gas pumps with the male, later identified as Jerome Slavinskas III, passed out inside. Troopers were able to wake up Jerome, and during the interaction with him, he displayed signs of driving under the influence. An investigation ensued, and a consent search was conducted. Located on Jerome was crystal meth. A search of Jerome’s vehicle resulted in the following items located inside:
Approximately 2.09 grams of marijuana
New England Firearms 12 gauge shotgun
Remington model 700
Barnett Ghost 420 Crossbow
17- 12 gauge shotgun rounds
5- 30-60 rifle rounds
Jerome was taken into custody without incident, transported to Delaware State Police Troop 5, and charged with the following crimes:
Three counts- Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited (Felony)
Two counts- Possession of Ammunition by a Person Prohibited (Felony)
Possession of a Firearm while Under the Influence
3rd Offense Driving Under the Influence of Drugs (Felony)
Possession of Marijuana
Possession of a Controlled Substance
Driving with Expired License
Failure to have Insurance Identification in Possession
Operation of an Unregistered Motor Vehicle
Jerome was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $53,550.00 cash bond.
