A situation that unfolded throughout the early morning hours Tuesday in Willards,

where a person barricaded himself inside a home after reports of shots fired, has ended with that person being sent to the hospital.

The incident began around 10 p.m. Monday in the area of Poplar Neck Road in Willards.

Maryland State Police and the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office, along with emergency personnel from two fire companies, responded to the incident.

People in nearby homes were evacuated out of caution.

Maryland State Police confirm the situation ended around 2 a.m.

Tuesday and the suspect was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, although his condition was not known.

Police have not released any other details, including the suspect's name.

There is no word yet if there were any other injuries.
