There are officially plans in place to transform the empty concrete lot near the Route 50 Bridge in Ocean City
, M.D. An eight story hotel, with 131 rooms, will be built where the former George B. Cropper Concrete Plant was - at the end of the Route 50 Bridge.
Keith Fisher, Principal of Fisher Architecture, says that the company is currently getting permits and plans to break ground early this spring. Fisher told 47 ABC that the impact on the surrounding neighborhood was highly considered. Everything from how far the building will be from the ocean, to where the shadow would fall, was carefully planned.
“I think it's a great thing that we've gotten this far,” Fisher said. “The town has been great to work with. And again I'm excited because I think it's a once in a lifetime opportunity to create something at such an iconic site.” Fisher says he hopes this building becomes a symbol for people as they cross the bridge and enter Ocean City. He estimates the hotel project will take 18 months and be complete by the summer of 2018.
