DOVER, Del. (AP) — A Delaware man has been charged with vehicular homicide after a woman was pinned underneath his car while he was trying to flee a group of people.
Police say 36-year-old Gerald Medkeff of Smyrna was driving in an alley near downtown Dover shortly before 2:30 a.m. Wednesday intending to buy drugs.
Investigators say Medkeff was approached by several people, who police say became disorderly with him.
While attempting to leave, Medkeff put his car in reverse, striking 40-year-old Moneca Saunders.
Authorities say Saunders became stuck under the car, and that Medkeff shifted from reverse to forward at least twice more while trying to leave.
Saunders was later pronounced dead at a hospital. Medkeff is charged with a second-degree vehicular homicide.
It was not immediately known whether he has a lawyer.
