47 ABC was in Georgetown Friday for the dedication of a brand new local playground,
but it's not your average, typical fun center. This is a playground that was created for everyone.
You can find it at Georgetown Elementary. Project leaders say this brand new playground provides all students, even those with special intellectual and physical needs with a place to play.
We're told the creation of this project started a year ago with the idea to help one student who couldn't play on their playground.
Project leaders say the community stepped in to help. Indian River High School students created the design and several others pitched in to make the idea a reality.
Now, every student gets the chance to enjoy the swing set and play structures.
"It makes it all worthwhile, it really does. There was a lot of effort a lot of work to be done by various people. Just to see the kids enjoy it especially those students with handicaps enjoy it is very rewarding," explains Neil Stong, principal of Georgetown Elementary.
The principal tells us it wouldn't have been possible without the communities help, especially Schell Brothers Construction, who donated labor and materials to make it happen.
