Berlin may have a new bike path and pedestrian walkway linking Berlin Falls Park to the downtown area soon.

After the proposal passed the city council last week all that's left is to apply for additional grants to get the job done.

The plan is to create a bike path along the current railroad tracks that run through the town.  According to city officials there's already an agreement in place with Maryland-Delaware railroad and those with the organization think the bike path is a great idea.

"We have a concept of doing it in three phases but the total length could be up to 1.7 miles if it was the total length of town from the northern border with US 50 to the southern border with Buckingham lane and Evans road," explains Berlin Planning Director Dave Engelhart.

The city planning director says he is getting his proposals together now to apply for that additional funding. Once that's done construction should be underway.
